It is very close to San Ling Xi, about 17 kilometers far away. Unlike San Ling Xi, flowers are not the point in this place. Xi Tou is famous for bamboos, and yes, it is also reservation for bamboos. Students in National Taiwan University, the best university in Taiwan do botanic research here and in San Ling Xi.
I went to Xi Tou last year. There is a very interesting stuff there called sky walk. The height is about 22.6 meters from the ground and the length is about 180 meters. While walking up there, I did experience how researchers work and see more clearly above. However, it was still scary when I looked down. Therefore, I am not sure if I dare try the sky walk in Grand Canyon someday! Though the one in Xi Tou is not as amazing as the one in Grand Canyon, at least you don’t have to change shoes because the floor is not made of glass.
While walking in the bamboos woods, I couldn’t help thinking of the movie “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon”. One of my favorite parts in the movie is that Zhang Zi-Yi fought with Chow Yun-Fat in the bamboo woods. Have you ever seen that movie? It’s a great one from Taiwanese director!

SanLingXi, at the altitude of 1600 meters, is famous for its scenery and various flowers (cherry blossoms: from January to February; tulip: from January to March; peony: from March to May; Taiwanese azalea: March to June). My trip this time was for peony.
SanLingXi is located in NanTou, the only county which is surrounded by all mountains. Besides flowers, SanLingXi is also an important reservation of fir. “San” in Mandarin Chinese means fir. “Ling” means woods. And Xi means streams and rivers.
When the car went towards SanLingXi, the mist and fog were so heavy that we could not see very clearly. Also, we worried that if it possible to see the beautiful waterfall inside SanLingXi. Fortunately, we saw it finally with only one glance before it was totally hidden in the mist.
It was amazing walking in the mist. It seemed we were in another place outside the real world. The fresh chilly air, the dew on the leaves, and the path through woods made this trip really something worthy of taking thousands shots.
The peony garden was full of people. Peony, admired by people in Tang Dynasty of China, was called king of flowers at that time. I didn’t know why until I watched this kind of pretty flowers. It’s just like a beautiful and august queen showing all her beauty without an ounce of shyness.
If you want to visit this beautiful spot, leave before 4pm because SanLingXi is easily surround by heavy mist and fog. If so, it would be a bit dangerous while driving.
