What and How Did You See?

(This photo is taken in Star Wharf, Kaohsiung)

We are all convinced “Time will tell”. We comfort ourselves or someone else with it when we are misunderstood, mistrusted, or betrayed.

Is it true? What if the truth is never revealed? How can you be sure what you are reading and studying does the justice? Take history, what we read from book might not true due to personal standpoint, political reasons, and some other stuff.

Is everything written and said real or true? Not exactly.

I tend to observe with my own eyes. Still, I know seeing is not always believing, but I try to observe as objectively as possible. When it comes to personality, the best way to know a person is to watch every little detail about this person. I might know a person through what he/she wrote and said, but I might know more if I got the chance to talk with him/her in person.

Also, the media in Taiwan are not always worthy to be trusted. Some of even most of them have already gotten their own conclusions about politics or what they are reporting now. They don’t really care if tell general public the truth. That’s why more and more people in Taiwan refuse to watch news obviously standing for pan-blue. I am not saying pan-blue bad, but the media should always support or stand for nobody but the only truth.

Also, media in Taiwan like to ask victim’s family “what are you feeling now? What are you thinking about now?” some kind of stupid questions like them. Moreover, correspondents wait for 24 hours keeping asking what their feelings are now. No matter when you turn on TV, you see someone crying and hear some stupid questions again and again. That is what people in Taiwan learn from news EVERYDAY.

What about Iraq? Middle-East? and so many other important international affairs? I hate to say that, but the time for international news might be less then half an hour out of 24-hour live news channel. When I switch from BBC/CNN to Taiwanese news channels, that’s what I see. As a member of global village, we care little about what’s going on around the would, especially when the government promise to do their best joining international activities against the pressure from China. How can we know which way is the best since we know nothing outsides?

Some media is looking or even making "breaking news," so it will increase their rating, then they can sell they commercials more expensive and make more money.

I hope not all of them are like this.

hi Beni,
Yes I guess you are right. Some media is trying to making more money.
There are still great TV programs or news channel in Taiwan. I'll just stay with them.

Hi Iris,

I don't know if this will make you feel any better but it is pretty much the same all over the world.

So many people want to be entertained, not informed. The mainstream news channels go for the easy way to keep ratings high by programing a lot of low grade fluff programs and not caring too much about hard news.

Unless, it is a high speed police chase down a busy expressway, then you will see the reporters falling all over themselves to cover an unimportant story.
Cheers to my favorite Kaohsiung english teacher.)
